Huawei pushes intelligent mining technology solutions

Huawei has been pushing its intelligent mining technologies at the 19th Huawei Global Analyst Summit this week.
The Asian technology giant offers passive optical network technologies to coal mines. At the aggregation layer, passive optical components are used to replace active switches, minimising the risk of electrical sparks caused by network devices.
On the device side, it claims to have launched the first intrinsically safe optical device to build an intrinsically safe industrial optical ring network, improving production efficiency, strengthening safe production and improving the working environment for workers.
The forum, entitled "Dive into Industrial Digitalisation, Creating New Value Together", addresses the challenges of digital transformation faced by different industries.
Chen Banghua, Vice President of Huawei Enterprise Business Group, said during a keynote speech: "Huawei has set up integrated teams to dive into industries and seek technologies for industries, provide ICT products that adapt to scenarios, and converge a wide range of technologies to develop product portfolios and solutions to facilitate digital transformation in industries."
The key to overcoming challenges lies in achieving three unifications involving platform, standards, and security.
Guided by mine industrial internet architecture, Huawei's next generation ICT - from MineHarmony OS and a mine integrated bearing network to cloud infrastructure and a digital platform - empowers every mine with intelligence, unlocking the value of mine equipment data and applications.
It features a range of solutions dedicated for mining enterprises to develop intelligent mining operations:
Remote Control of Electric Shovel Operations
Autonomous Driving Mining Vehicles
Composite O&M Platform for Safety and Production
Consulting Planning and Talent Training
A new Freedonia Group analysis projects smart off-road equipment sales to grow 35% in 2022 and then more than double by 2026, when they will account for nearly 5% of all off-road equipment demand.
Construction is currently the largest market for smart equipment, although demand will expand most quickly in the mining sector, which is expected to become the leading market for smart off-road equipment technology by 2026, as operators increasingly use advanced technologies – such as autonomous equipment and digital mine management solutions – to lower costs and boost output.
Among the four major off-road equipment product segments, smart technologies have seen the most penetration in mining machinery due to the following factors:
- Mine applications are particularly well suited for autonomous equipment and robotics, as mining tasks are generally repetitive over a long period and take place in an enclosed environment.
- Mining firms typically have the financial resources to absorb the high costs of advanced smart equipment, while costs are a more significant hurdle for many construction or agricultural projects.
