Finding useful and productive ways to utilize social media in the mining sector continues to be a conundrum for most companies. For Caterpillar Inc., it continues to be a valuable resource as proven through its Built For It series.

Today, the equipment maker is taking the series to Periscope, an app by Twitter that allows users to share and watch live video broadcasts from a mobile phone. According to Caterpillar, the company will live stream eight video segments from its headquarters in Peoria -- four of them featuring product demonstrations and the other half highlighting behind-the-scene facility tours, technology demos and customer support solutions. In addition, the company will feature a walkaround done using its new Cat Inspect App.

The live broadcast gets underway at 8 a.m. Central/9 a.m. Eastern. See the full schedule and machines being demoed below:

How to watch

To watch the live stream you’ll need a Twitter account and you’ll need to download the Periscope app. Once this is set up, you’ll receive notifications on your mobile device each time Caterpillar begins streaming.

2. Log in via Twitter or create a new account (for help, click here)
3. Enable notifications when prompted

The Built For It series by Caterpillar has featured everything from LPGA sisters teeing off on a one-of-a-kind course made entirely of moving CAT equipment, to playing a log-sized Jenga game, to maneuvering a mini-excavator inside a China shop.
