Metso adds data-led performance, production management tools

Metso has announced the launch of three new digital platforms, extending the scope of its existing Metso Digital services.
The new digital solutions, Metso Digital Production Management, Metso Data-driven Performance Analytics and Metso Safety Performance Platform, are intended to leverage increases in operational data availability.
Metso's new digital solutions leverage AI and advanced analytics to help customers optimise production decisions with intelligent recommendations, uncover improvement opportunities hidden in operational data and transform safety observations into proactive action.
“Mining companies are under constant pressure to increase production, improve safety and get more value from existing operations," says Arttu-Matti Matinlauri, Vice President, Minerals Digital at Metso.
These services deliver measurable customer value in the form of improved maintenance efficiency, safety, prevented failures, and increased overall productivity.
Extending the scope of Metso’s Geminex services
Metso Digital Production Management helps operations respond faster to changing ore characteristics, process conditions and operational constraints.
The solution rapidly generates accurate production plans based on site-specific targets and constraints, reducing the need for hours of scenario simulations to be able to identify optimal operating settings.
The new Metso Digital Production Management integrates existing functionalities offered via the Geminex suite of services with expanded capabilities for advanced production planning, operational decision support, and overall performance optimisation.
Metso notes that moving forward, these enhanced digital features, which offer distinct benefits for operations managers, metallurgists and process engineers, and production planners and maintenance teams, will be fully delivered through the Digital Production Management platform.
Key functionalities
- AI-assisted production planning: Uses given outcome objectives, operational information, planning data and metallurgical intelligence to calculate the best available production plan.
- Scenario simulation and what-if analysis: Automatically evaluates and compares alternative production scenarios to support planning recommendations.
- Production target optimisation: Identifies plans aligned with site-specific production objectives and operating constraints.
- Integrated production and maintenance planning: Integrates production schedules, equipment availability and maintenance activities into the same planning context.
- Operational and business impact evaluation: Helps users understand the expected consequences of a production decision before acting.
- OEM-agnostic by design: Integrates data from equipment and systems across the plant, regardless of supplier, enabling site-wide production planning and decision support from a single solution.
Improved performance and safety through Metso Digital
Metso's new digital solutions also leverage AI and advanced analytics to help customers uncover improvement opportunities hidden in operational data and transform safety observations into proactive action.
Metso Data-driven Performance Analytics is a continuous, Metso expert-led service that evaluates how equipment is used in operation and how effectively it performs as part of a specific process.
The service provides daily asset and process performance monitoring, identifies performance gaps and bottlenecks, and prioritises and communicates continuous improvement actions for sustained operational results.
This enables higher throughput, improved recovery and more consistent operational performance. The service is provided by Metso Performance Centers, which also deliver data-driven Condition Monitoring services for Metso customers globally.
Metso Safety Performance Platform helps organisations strengthen workplace safety by making it easier for employees and contractors to report risks, incidents, near misses and best practices from any device.
AI-assisted reporting drives greater workforce engagement, improves data quality and consistency, and helps organisations identify risks earlier. Real-time dashboards, trend analysis, easy risk hotspot identification on a map, and AI-powered recommendations turn safety data into actionable insights that support incident prevention and continuous improvement.
Metsos’s existing digital portfolio
Metso’s three new digital solutions further strengthen the Metso Digital portfolio, which is built around four key areas of operation: Plant Planning, Production Planning, Equipment Performance and Process Performance. Together, these areas help customers optimise plant design, production planning, asset performance and process efficiency across the minerals processing value chain.
Meet Metso’s partners
Anglo American is a UK-headquartered mining company and a major producer of diamonds, copper, nickel and iron ore. The company has agreed to merge with Teck Resources and will form a mining major, Anglo Teck, once the merger receives final approval. Metso supplied Metso MX wear parts to supply its cone crushers at Anglo’s Minas Rio iron ore mine in Brazil.
Glencore operates as a trading and mining company with a globally diversified natural resource portfolio. The company focuses on metals, minerals and energy products. Glencore has been the subject of repeated unsuccessful mergers with Rio Tinto, with attempts in 2014, 2024 and in 2026. Glencore has become a major producer of more than 60 commodities which advance everyday life. Glencore’s copper mining subsidiary Antapaccay specified Metso’s FloatForce+ mixing mechanism and Center Launder as part of a flotation circuit overhaul.
Newmont is the world’s leading gold company and a producer of copper, silver, zinc and lead. The Company’s world-class portfolio of assets, prospects and talent is anchored in favourable mining jurisdictions in North America, South America, Australia and Africa. Newmont implemented Metso’s metallurgical digital twin, Geminex, at its Lihir gold plant in Papua New Guinea.
