Siemens Energy Eyes Transformation of Industry Spinoff

Industrial services and technology supplier Siemens Energy has announced plans to separate its Transformation of Industry business unit into a standalone business unit. The unit will initially operate under Siemens Energy’s upcoming new brand, Omterra, before the necessary legal and administrative steps to separate the unit are complete. 

Siemens Energy expects the separation will permit Transformation of Industry to explore different options for further growth ranging from bringing in external investors to a potential capital markets transaction. Siemens Energy intends to retain a significant minority stake in the Transformation of Industry entity to support the business's continued development once the spinoff has been completed. 

The Transformation of Industry’s portfolio includes Siemens Energy’s established industrial steam turbine, compressor, generator and motor product lines, as well as maritime and subsea technologies. The new standalone unit will also include Siemens Energy’s electrolyser for hydrogen production products.

While Siemens Energy's Transformation of Industry business unit supplies generators, compressors and microgrids for industrial customers outside the power sector, it has not gained a significant market share in the mining sector, where emerging demand from microgrid customers has tended to be directed towards generating sets from East Asian suppliers. Instead, the recent increase in sales has been driven by demand for Siemens Energy's gas turbines and microgrids from the data sector segment. Analysts suggest that the spin-off will reduce complexity and allow the Transformation of Industry unit to concentrate on its largest customer segments.

Omterra brand launch

In July 2026, Siemens Energy announced it was planning to unify the name and branding of Siemens Energy and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy. The two brands will be united under a new name and brand: Omterra. 

The new name (All Land) reflects the company’s global footprint, its technological expertise, and its commitment to supporting reliable energy supplies worldwide.

The rebranding process is scheduled to begin later in 2026 and will be implemented in stages. The two units were spun-off from Siemens AG in 2020. The rebranding is based on the time-limited license agreement governing the use of the brand.

Manufacturing hubs

The Transformation of Industry unit supplies the oil and gas, process industries, data centers and maritime segments. The unit generated revenue of €5.7bn (US$6.61bn) in fiscal year 2025. The unit has a portfolio of over 85,000 units installed globally: service related revenue also accounts for around 50% of total sales.

The Transformation of Industry has a number of manufacturing hubs located in Germany, of which the largest is in Duisburg, as well as other hubs elsewhere in Europe, the US and Asia.
