Anglo American has appointed Helena Nonka as Group Director of Strategy and Business Development and as a member of the Group Management Committee.

Nonka is currently Executive Vice President of Corporate Development for Norsk Hydro, the global aluminium and renewable energy company, and brings more than 20 years of international experience primarily in the natural resources industry. She will take up her new position on October 1.

Duncan Wanblad, Chief Executive of Anglo American, said her deep understanding of the mining industry, value chains and end markets will be invaluable as it continues to grow the business.

"The mining industry plays such a pivotal role in enabling how we all live our lives and the need to decarbonise the global economy, while our ability to fulfil those promises is led by the strategic choices we make.”

Nonka looks forward to working closely with Wanblad and his executive team to shape the evolution of Anglo American for the decades ahead.

"It is a particularly exciting time to be in the mining industry, not least as the green energy transition requires such significant additional volumes of responsibly produced metals and minerals," she said.

Prior to Norsk Hydro, Nonka was Global Head of New Business at SGS and worked for 12 years at Rio Tinto, handling a variety of roles including Global Head of Transfer Pricing, General Manager Economics and Markets and General Manager Corporate Strategy. For six years she held the position of Senior Manager - Global Supply Chain Solutions at Deloitte.

  • CRU Group, the global intelligence company for the metals, mining and fertiliser industries, has appointed Zain Ajlouni as a Regional Director of Sales, Marketing and Customer Services for the Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA). Ajlouni will be based out of Dubai, and cover mining, metals and fertiliser clients across the region.
