Caterpillar to make its presence known at Mining Indaba
Caterpillar will roll into Mining Indaba next month as the company plans to present its range of innovative technologies and services. Music to the ears of the current mining industry, there will be a focus on optimising operations, whether surface or underground, newly developed or long lived.
The Caterpillar exhibit, stand number 726, will feature digital displays of surface and underground equipment as well as Cat MineStar™ System capabilities—ranging from machine health monitoring and data management to fully autonomous machine operation.
Barloworld Equipment, the Cat dealer in the region, will staff the exhibit with experienced personnel able to provide both technical information and practical insights. Additionally, Cat Financial personnel will be on hand to discuss customised finance—for both projects and equipment—and extended protection solutions designed to keep business moving forward.
The age of smart iron
Caterpillar recently announced a number of new machines designed to make best use of technology to drive costs down. The new MD6420C Rotary Drill is autonomy ready and optionally equipped to leverage the safety and productivity benefits of Cat MineStar Terrain. This high-precision drill management system optimises utilisation and improves drilling and blasting operations by accurately guiding the operator and improving precision of hole placement and drilling depth.
Caterpillar offers a full range of productive mechanical drive trucks as well as two models of AC electric mining trucks. The newest is the 794 AC Large Mining Truck, which delivers 291-tonne payload capacity, class-leading speed on grade, superior four-corner braking and easy access for maintenance.
The underground hard rock mining product line features the new AD22 Underground Truck. The 22.0-tonne-payload articulated dump truck is designed to deliver the productive performance and durability of its proven, larger counterparts. Its small operating envelope and agile characteristics enhance productivity in any mining application suited for this size class.
Caterpillar is also featuring the newly announced R1700K underground loader (LHD). The new K Series model features multiple systems enhancements for lower costs while boosting productivity. A new cab with superior ergonomics helps operators perform efficiently. As a safe and productive alternative to in-cab operation, Cat Command technology enables teleremote and autonomous operation of the new LHD and others in the Cat line.
