The results of a recent scoping study, produced by an Australian base metals company, have revealed what could potentially be one of the world largest lead mine operations.

Galena Mining is currently developing the Abra base metals deposit, located in Western Australia, and has released the results of a scoping study which has revealed the deposit to be the fifth or the sixth largest lead mines in the world.

With a JORC Resource in excess of five million tonnes of lead and silver, Galena has set an aggressive timeline to start of construction of an underground mining operation at Abra in September 2019, with extraction of the first mineralisation in March 2021.

The study highlights show over an initial mine life of 11 years, the Abra project could have an average lead metal production of 91 ktpa and an average silver production of 91ktpa.

The good news doesn’t stop there for Galena, the study has also revealed that the project would have a base case pre-tax post royalties NPV10 of $394 million.
