South African Trade Mission Urged to Take up Opportunities in Peruvian Mining Sector

An Outward Trade and Investment Mission to Peru and Chile by South African firms, including representatives of mining, construction and engineering firms, is paving the way for exploiting opportunities that exist within Peru’s mining sector.
Organised by the Republic of South Africa Department of Trade and Industry, a delegation including ministry officials and South African business people met with representatives of the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers last week.
The visit to the institute was aimed at allowing the South African companies learn about the opportunities that already exist within the mining industry.
Direrector Gonzales Galindor urged the South Africans to tap into both Peru’s mining and construction sectors where investment in infrastructure is badly needed to keep pace with Peru’s rapidly growing economy.
They were also encouraged to take advantage of support and services available through the Peruvian Embassy to allow them to do business in the country.
The trip, which has also included a visit to neighbouring Chile, has already been hugely successful for one delegate who has secured a multi-million rand deal with two Chilean companies.
Jaco van Wyk of Genesys Workforce Systems, which specialises in offsite monitoring and asset protection solutions, has won two separate contracts, one with a Chilean telecommunications company and one with a local public hospital.
