Sirius Minerals signs EPC agreement for 250,000 tonne polyhalite port facilities
A UK potash company developing a multi-billion-dollar operation set to disrupt the global mining community has chosen its construction partner as it moves closer to operation.
Sirius Minerals announced in a statement this week that, through its subsidiary York Potash Processing and Ports Ltd, has signed an engineering, procurement and construction contract (EPC) with McLaughlin & Harvey Ltd.
Under the contract, McLaughlin & Harvey will develop the port handling facility at Teesside, which will receive polyhalite fertilizer after it has been transported from Sirius’ $4.3bn Woodsmith mine site. At peak production, Sirius expects to export around 20mn tonnes of polyhalite per year all over the world.
The contract will see McLaughlin & Harvey conduct the design and build of works associated with the port handling facilities including; product storage facilities for approximately 250,000 tonnes of product, ship loading equipment, ship outload infrastructure, and the final product screening facility.
