BGC Contracting, one of Australia’s leading providers of contract mining services, has been awarded a $700m deal to provide mining and equipment maintenance and services at the Boggabri open-cut mine in New South Wales.

BGC Contracting Chief Executive Officer Greg Heylen said the Boggabri contract was the company’s biggest NSW win in recent years and endorsed the company’s confidence in the potential for growth in NSW.

“In addition to the size of the contract, it is a significant strategic success as we seek to expand nationally into new locations and commodities, particularly in coal,” Mr Heylen said.

“I am confident that our collaborative approach of working closely with our clients will ensure that Boggabri mine can maximise its performance.” Mr Heylen also said that BGC Contracting was committed to supporting the people currently employed at Boggabri Mine and the local community.

“Recruiting locally is good corporate citizenship and an important factor to ensure the safety of people on the project, the retention of valuable skills and the smooth transition of services.  These are our highest priorities.”

The Boggabri Coal mine

Located approximately 17km north-east of Boggabri in the Gunnedah Basin, New South Wales, Boggabri Coal Mine is an open-cut coal operation which has been contributing to the community and regional economy since 2006.

The mine supports a workforce of about 600 employees and contractors. Most of our workers and their families live locally and are part of the community. Coal mined is processed through a recently completed coal handling and preparation plant before being transported to the Port of Newcastle for international export.

The mine produces up to 7 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of saleable coal with a mine life to 2033.
