Playing it straight: Caterpillar unveil its Cat Rock Straight system

Caterpillar has unveiled its fully mechanised longwall system, the Cat Rock System, designed for continuous mining of flat and horizontal deposits.
The system is the first commercial continuous mining and hauling system for underground hard rock applications. After extensive field testing, Caterpillar has made the Cat Rock System available commercially.
“Compared to conventional hard rock mining, fewer people are needed underground,” said the company in a statement.
Other benefits of the system include a significant reduction of health and safety risks as well as zero exhaust emissions.
