One of the biggest mergers to occur in the mining industry happened on April 23, 2004. On that date the High Court of Ghana approved the merger of AngloGold and the Ashanti Goldfields Corporation, changing the name to AngloGold Ashanti Limited and creating one of the largest mining companies in the world.
