The world’s leading mining services provider has secured a major contract to continue providing services to a major coal mine in Australia.

Thiess has announced this week that is has been awarded an A$160 million contract extension to provide mining services at the Curragh Coal Mine in Queensland, Australia.

The contract awarded by the mine operators Coronado Curragh, will see Thiess continue to deliver mining services as part of a long-standing contract initially signed back in 2004.

Through the extension, Thiess will mine approximately 45 million BCMs (bank cubic metres) of waste and coal at Curragh’s North Pit, located 30 kilometres north of Blackwater, until June 2019.

This will run concurrently with Thiess’ existing scope of work under a contract valued at $1.1 billion.

CIMIC Group Chief Executive Officer Michael Wright said: “This is the fifth successive contract that Thiess has won to deliver mining services at the Curragh Mine. Our team has a strong record of consistently meeting production targets through operational excellence and a commitment to strong safety performance. This extension recognises our depth of expertise and the consistency of the service that our team has brought to this operation.”
