An Australian mine that has been under rehabilitation and extensive restart program looks set to be operational on time and under budget.

The Century Mine, which was placed under rehabilitation back in 2015 and has since been undergoing an extensive program to restart operations, is currently “95% complete.”

That’s the message from mine operators New Century Resources, which announced the update in a statement this week.

“New Century continues strong progress towards restarting Century operations,” the company said in a statement.

“Planned refurbishment activities are on budget and to schedule, which is around 95% complete.”

The company has a target for a complete restart of operations and first production of zinc for August 2018.

During its initial 16 years of operation, the mine was one of the largest zinc mines in the world and produced an average of 475,000tpa of zinc.

Operations were ceased in 2015 following a depletion of the ore reserves but in 2016 New Century acquired the mine project and began an extensive restart project.

New Century estimates Century will again be one of the top 10 zinc operations in the world, with steady state production forecasted at 507,000tpa of zinc .
